Angela Girard's Priorities
Priority: Childcare Close to Home
Re-elect me October 17, 2026 and I will continue to push for accessible, affordable, quality child care in the City that includes:
- Delivery of the City’s Child Care Action Plan — Council approved this ten-year strategy; the job now is implementation. Read the plan
- More child care on City-owned land — expand public spaces operated by non-profit providers
- Child care in new developments — secure spaces through the rezoning process, so care exists where families actually live
- Stronger partnerships — press senior governments for the capital funding that builds new spaces, and work with local providers to improve quality and access
Why this matters to me and my community
As a mom with a young daughter, I’ve lived this. Finding daycare, before-school and after-school care in the City is hard, and the waitlists are long. Parents I talk to are driving to other municipalities for a space and it’s adding an hour to their day and disrupting the routines that young children depend on. Providers who want to expand here often can’t, because there’s nowhere suitable to do it.
That last problem is one the City can actually solve. Land and space are municipal levers. When we make City-owned sites available to non-profit operators and secure child care space as new housing is approved, we create the conditions providers need to grow and expand.
The timing matters. Provincial and federal capital funding for new spaces is available now, and municipalities that come forward with sites and shovel-ready proposals are the ones that get it. On Council, I moved, along with former Councillor Tina Hu, to explore a co-ordinated after-school program initiative with key partners in the City to find creative ways to create more options for working parents not to have to leave work to get their school aged children into a program from school.
I also moved the additional funding that delivered a 37-space child care facility at Mahon Park. I also advocated for and supported securing $3.5 million in City funding for a 37-space child care centre for ages 0-5 at Cloverley Elementary, and up to 50-space after school care for students at this school. I want to keep this work going – because every year we wait is another cohort of families having to commute elsewhere to meet their childcare needs.

Angela Girard is very close to my heart. During our time serving together on North Vancouver City Council, we laughed together, cried together, and achieved many meaningful things for our community.
Professionally, Angela is hardworking, caring, and deeply committed to the residents she serves. Personally, she is kind, genuine, and compassionate. It is this rare combination of dedication and humanity that makes her exactly the kind of councillor our city needs.
Angela is never afraid to stand up for residents when they raise concerns. She takes the time to listen, understand their experiences, and advocate for the support our city needs from senior levels of government. Whether we were working on childcare initiatives, after-school care, multicultural events, or other community priorities, Angela always brought passion, energy, and a determination to turn ideas into action. I have seen firsthand how much she cares about North Vancouver and the people who call it home. I would not hesitate for a second to support Angela Girard for City Councillor.
